Talking Tackle: Spend Time with Dad this Father's Day

Cherish Time Outdoors

With Father’s Day coming up soon, it’s time to start thinking about what to buy the father figure in your life, and most importantly, how to show him your love and appreciation. We have concluded, that as well as a new fishing rod, the best gift you could give your dad this Father’s Day, is quality time together. One of the most popular and enjoyable ways to spend time outdoors with your dad, is fishing. Not only do you get to be in the fresh air, enjoying the outdoors, but it also gives you time to relax, unwind and talk.

How to Get Started

If you're new to fishing, you can get started with just a simple rod, reel and the right bait. However, if your dad is a pro or you want to impress him, take a look at our range of fishing tackle and equipment for all disciplines.

Of course, this all depends on whereabouts you live. If you’re right next to a beach, you could even try sea fishing from the shore with a bag of chips. Just be wary of the seagulls and don’t mix them up with your live bait!

Why Get Into Fishing?

Fishing with your dad is a chance to create new, fond memories. We hear from one of our anglers, Billy: “I have lots of memories going out with my dad. One of the best memories is going to the local pond with my dad and my son. We still talk and laugh about some of the moments we had today. From falling in, to catching massive Carp. It was always a laugh”.

Although there are many skills and much concentration needed, it’s also a great time to wind down. “It’s very relaxing, stress free and a good bonding session. I always found that it was a good time to laugh and even share your thoughts and worries,” Billy continues.

Once you’ve set up, there’s plenty of time to sit down, grab a drink and have a laugh together. There aren’t many moments in life where you can just watch time pass by with your dad, other than fishing at the local lake, waiting for that glorious bite.

Why Spending Quality Time Together is Important

If your dad has done a lot for you, it’s only right to show your appreciation, especially on their big day. Spending quality time together not only gives you common ground, but it also brings you closer. “My dad taught me how to fish and I picked it up quite well. And then from Dad showing me, I showed all my mates,” another angler, Jamie, told us, “It was always nice to have our own thing, to spend time together and catch the biggest fish we could. Most of my memories growing up with Dad are from fishing and camping”.

It can bring a sense of trust and independence into your relationship. From your dad teaching you these new skills and watching you have a go, not only will he be proud of you, but it can also bring a sense of accomplishment. And what better gift than that for your old man? Let him feel a bit of pride after years of changing your nappy. To top the day off, you could even make his tea and bring him a beer. Too far? We didn’t think so.
